What Is the V-71 Restriction Code and How to Remove It? Step-by-Step Guide
Foreigners who leave Turkey after overstaying their visa or residence permit by more than 10 days are automatically flagged with the V-71 restriction code. This code is recorded in the Directorate of Migration Management system and will turn you back at your next attempt to enter Turkey. Many people only discover this code when they are refused at the airport — yet it is possible to have the code removed through legal appeal.
Why Is the V-71 Code Issued?
Under Article 9 of Law No. 6458 on Foreigners and International Protection, this code is applied to foreigners who leave Turkey after overstaying by more than 10 days. The entry ban period varies depending on the length of the overstay:
- 10 days – 1 month overstay: 1-year entry ban
- 1 month – 6 months overstay: 2-year entry ban
- Over 6 months overstay: 5-year entry ban
What Does the V-71 Code Lead To?
- Refusal of entry at Turkish border crossings
- Automatic rejection of visa applications at Turkish consulates
- Rejection of residence permit applications
- Preventing family reunification if your spouse or children are in Turkey
How to Remove the V-71 Code
1. Administrative Application (Direct Request)
You do not have to wait for the ban to expire. If you meet any of the following conditions, you can apply for the ban to be lifted administratively:
- First-degree relatives (spouse, child, parent) in Turkey
- Real estate property in Turkey
- Active company partnership in Turkey
- Humanitarian grounds (serious illness, emergency)
2. Annulment Lawsuit at the Administrative Court
If your administrative application is refused, or if you wish to proceed directly to court, you can file an annulment lawsuit at the Administrative Court within 60 days of notification. You can also request a stay of execution in the same petition to enable entry before a decision is made.

- Administrative application: Average 4–8 weeks
- Administrative Court annulment lawsuit: 4–10 months (stay of execution can come much faster)
