Entry Ban to Turkey: Causes, Restriction Codes and Solutions
An entry ban to Turkey is an administrative measure applied through a restriction code stamped into your passport by the Directorate of Migration Management or security units. This measure remains in force for varying periods depending on the type and severity of the violation. The steps to have the ban lifted are directly tied to the source of the code — knowing which code you carry is therefore critical to identifying the solution.
Main Causes of Entry Bans
Visa and Residence Violations
- V-71: Foreigners who leave Turkey after overstaying their visa or residence permit by more than 10 days
- V-69: Foreigners who entered on a visa and stayed for an extended period without obtaining a residence permit
- V-68: Foreigners found to be working without a work permit
Public Order and Security Grounds
- V-84: Administrative restriction issued on general security and public order grounds
- G-87: Code placed at the request of the Police Directorate or intelligence units; carries severe restrictions
Judicial and Court Decisions
- N-82: Entry ban at the request of the prosecution or court
- N-99: Ban applied under foreigners law even after a sentence has been served
Legal Routes to Lift the Ban
Administrative Objection
A reasoned objection petition can be submitted to the Provincial Governorate or Migration Directorate within 7–15 days of notification.
Annulment Lawsuit at the Administrative Court
If the administrative application is refused or goes unanswered, an annulment lawsuit can be filed at the Administrative Court within 60 days of notification. A stay of execution request can be included to temporarily suspend the ban.
Critical Points
- Never attempt to enter with a different passport or at a different border crossing while the ban is active — this constitutes a serious offence and aggravates the ban.
- Always clear your code before applying for a visa at a Turkish embassy.
- Not every code is resolved through the same legal procedure; V-71 and G-87 have completely different appeal dynamics.
